5 Ingredient Mango Shake (Vegan)

I’m having a moment with mangoes. I’m going to be honest and this statement is going to be controversial, but as an Indian person, I know it’s kind of within my genes to be obsessed with mangoes, but I’m like, medium about them. I know, I know. I’m not really obsessed. I have my moments and I generally like them, but I’m picky.

Another controversial thing to say – I really only think Indians, Asians and Latinos know how to do justice to the greatness of a mango. What I mean by that is, mangoes are indigenous to these areas of the world, so the knowledge of mangoes by these groups of people is incredibly high, therefore I believe they know how to cook with them the best. So my pickiness stems from a place of culture, really. I like fresh mangoes, mango pulp, mango lassi, mango sticky rice, raw mango salad (the South Indian version), raw mango in Indian street food dishes, and a few more things. But I’m not obsessed with mangoes as most people would think all Indians are.

That all being said (and it was probably unnecessary to mention all of that), I have a 5 ingredient Mango Shake for you. My middle sister, brother-in-law and baby niece live in Miami (and have for 5+ years now) and they recently moved to a neighborhood within Miami that is lush with tropical jungle. Their home is surrounded by mango trees, so I took full advantage, ie., took full advantage of creating content and making delicious mango treats. It wasn’t until our parents arrived a week or so after me, where my dad pointed out that this variety of mango is called “Kesar Mango.” Kesar mangoes are small in size, soft, and have a deep orange color. Because they are so ripe, I decided to make a sweet Mango Shake. Not a lassi, a shake. This drink does not include yogurt, which is a core ingredient in mango lassi.

Check out the recipe below and make it this summer!

5 Ingredient Mango Shake:

serves 2

  • 4 Kesar Mangoes
  • 1 cup ice
  • 3/4-1 cup unsweetened oat milk
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Reddi-Wip Coconut Whipped Cream for topping

1. Blend everything together, with the exception of the whipped cream, until super smooth. Divide among two glasses and top with coconut whip. Drink up!
