8 steps to an eco-friendly life in the kitchen & beyond – My first TEDx Talk!

THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED(x) TALK…!

I can officially say I’m an expert on how to live eco-friendly!! Ok, maybe I can’t go THAT far, but I did just do my first TEDx Talk: 8 steps to an eco-friendly life in the kitchen & beyond. Being a TED speaker has been on my list of goals, so the fact that I was able to accomplish a TEDx Talk in less than 18 minutes is beyond satisfying for me!!

You’re probably wondering how I got this opportunity, right?! Well, well – let me tell you all about it! Last June (yes, June 2022), the lovely TEDx board of Binghamton University reached out to me with a beautiful note stating (and I quote) We are intrigued by your creative, sustainable, and heritage-oriented approach to cooking, and believe your story would be a perfect fit for the TEDx stage.” And it took off from there! We spent months together over email compiling a list of topics and approaches to my talk, but the one thing I knew all along is I wanted to focus eco-living. I have spent the past 5+ years living (or at least trying to live) a more thoughtful, compassionate and purposeful life when it comes to our planet. So the least I could do was use this platform of TED to share that! I couldn’t believe that something I am organically passionate about has led me to a TEDx Talk and being one of the leading chefs focused on sustainability! My mind is actually BLOWN!

I drafted an entire 10 page talk – a huge part of my talk was influenced by my newsletter Ecokitchen that I published with The Washington Post back in April 2022! From there, I went back and forth with the TEDx Binghamton University team on fine tuning it. And then I put together a slideshow – not mandatory, but helps in the storytelling process! And finally – we made it to the day – March 19th, 2023. I was the last speaker to go on stage that day among the 5 speakers. It was invigorating to speak to a room full of our future generations – students trying to learn, absorb and make a change. I could’ve spoken for hours, but luckily, someone was there to stop me LOL!

This was my outfit! Fully eco-friendly, duh!!

What a cool experience! Truly feeling humbled and honored. Most importantly – I hope what I shared helps make a difference in many peoples lives and makes you think – should I buy that? Do I need that? Can I find an alternative? Should I cut out the meat today? So on and so forth.

THANK YOU all for the support – it’s what keeps me going!!
